QC Testing Protocols

There are three major types of testing that have their own purpose and protocol.  The first is a qualification test.  We have an initial qualification process when we’re ready to bring a new optic into production.  It is a very labor-intensive look into the quality of the build, the components that are used, and cross-compatibility.  We disassemble the module and inspect it closely with microscopes to make sure all brand new, quality components are used, the quality of soldering is up to our standards and no shortcuts are used in the manufacturing of our products.  We test each product in over 50 different platforms to make sure the structure of the build is compatible across product lines.  We have all ROHS certifications on file for all of our products. 

The second type of testing is our inbound quality control.  Before any product is brought into Finished Goods Inventory (FGI) it goes through a rigorous testing procedure to insure proper functionality and consistency in the builds.   We pay close attention to the builds and check samples for any variation in the build that would impair it’s compatibility. 

The third level of testing is our outbound testing procedure.  This is our 7-step coding and customization process to insure the compatibility per platform.  Each optic is coded and tested per platform to ensure 100% compatibility for the customer.   Here are some of the testing procedures we use:

  • Per platform application compatibility testing
  • 10G/1G Traffic functionality TX/RX per supported layer2/3 protocol
    • Additional BER test
  • Internal/External Optical Monitoring/DOM/DDM verification and measurements
  • TX/RX Light meter measurements
  • Physical exterior and labeling
  • EEPROM MSA values verification (wavelength, description, form factor, connector, vendor PN, fiber type, vendor name, version, link length, DDM thresholds, DDM calibration, supported protocols, vendor OUI, platform specific customizations)
  • Visual/physical consistency and quality exam*
